{"id":8622,"date":"2023-06-02T08:21:49","date_gmt":"2023-06-02T06:21:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/professional-scientists.de\/?p=8622"},"modified":"2023-06-01T11:18:55","modified_gmt":"2023-06-01T09:18:55","slug":"the-bicycle-day-focus-on-sustainable-mobility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/professional-scientists.de\/en\/the-bicycle-day-focus-on-sustainable-mobility\/","title":{"rendered":"The Bicycle Day &#8211; Focus on sustainable mobility"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-1 fusion-flex-container nonhundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling\" style=\"--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;\" ><div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-row fusion-flex-align-items-flex-start fusion-flex-content-wrap\" style=\"max-width:1248px;margin-left: calc(-4% \/ 2 );margin-right: calc(-4% \/ 2 );\"><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-0 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-flex-column\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;--awb-width-large:100%;--awb-margin-top-large:0px;--awb-spacing-right-large:1.92%;--awb-margin-bottom-large:20px;--awb-spacing-left-large:1.92%;--awb-width-medium:100%;--awb-order-medium:0;--awb-spacing-right-medium:1.92%;--awb-spacing-left-medium:1.92%;--awb-width-small:100%;--awb-order-small:0;--awb-spacing-right-small:1.92%;--awb-spacing-left-small:1.92%;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-column-has-shadow fusion-flex-justify-content-flex-start fusion-content-layout-column\"><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-1\"><p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">June 3rd is celebrated in some European countries as the Bicycle Day.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">This special day was created in 1998 to draw attention to the increasing burden of car traffic and to focus more on the bicycle as an environmentally friendly means of transport.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The Bicycle Day also has international significance and is celebrated as World Bicycle Day to raise awareness of sustainable mobility and environmental protection.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">In this blog article we would like to highlight the increasing popularity of the bicycle in everyday life and on the road.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The Bicycle Day is used by bicycle associations to draw attention to the stress in road traffic.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The day is being duly celebrated on the bike with excursions and star tours to raise awareness of this environmentally friendly means of transport.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">More people are encouraged to use bicycles for their daily commute to reduce the burden of car traffic.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Although June 3rd is considered as the Bicycle Day, there are events throughout the year to mark the changing traffic conditions.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">According to the &#8220;Fahrrad-Monitor&#8221; study by the SINUS Institute commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport, around 16 million people in Germany are thinking about buying a bike.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The willingness to spend on bicycles is on average just over 1,000 euros.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Pedelecs and mountain bikes are particularly popular.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Company bike leasing models offer around 4% of the population an attractive opportunity to purchase a bicycle.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The study shows that people have concrete demands on politicians in the area of cycling.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">This includes the expansion of cycle paths, a better separation of cyclists and other road users, the establishment of safe bicycle parking facilities and cycle lanes.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Cyclists&#8217; sense of security is increasing, as the bicycle monitor shows.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">In 2021, 63% of respondents said they felt very or fairly safe when cycling, compared to 56% in 2019. However, one element of uncertainty is still the lack of separate cycle lanes.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">According to &#8220;Fahrrad-Monitor&#8221;, the number of people wearing bicycle helmets has increased significantly.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Almost half of all cyclists (45%) report wearing a bike helmet all or most of the time, compared to 30% in 2019. This increase is particularly noticeable among the 60-69 year olds, 20-29 year olds and 14 year olds<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">-19 year olds.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Educational campaigns by the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport have contributed to this positive development.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">In conclusion, the Bicycle Day is an important opportunity to raise awareness of sustainable mobility and the use of bicycles in everyday life.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The increasing popularity of the bicycle as a means of transport is reflected in a growing bicycle market and consumers&#8217;
